8 Steps to Get the Most Accurate Tarot Reading
Finding your perfect tarot reader is such an individual thing. I see people asking others for recommendations all the time, but that usually doesn’t work because, just as in your personal life, you either bond with someone or you don’t.
And it’s nice to know that you already like and vibe with your reader before you ever commit to spending some money with them.
So, from over 30 years of reading tarot for people (and 20+ years as a professional tarot reader), here are my tips for finding the right reader (and getting the best reading once you’ve booked with them):
#1: Make sure you vibe with a reader before scheduling a reading
If a certain tarot reader interests you, follow them for a while to see whether you feel in sync with that person. Do you like the way they communicate in their videos/live readings on social media? Do you find their insights interesting? If so, this person might be a good reader for you. And, if you’re in sync, the reading is likely to be more accurate.
#2: Does your reader’s energy feel positive and clear?
Is your reader well-organized, clean, attractive in everything surrounding her (website, social media feeds, her beliefs, and her way of communicating with people)? If so, her mind is probably clear, too, and the messages from the tarot will come straight through to you without being thrown off course by the chaotic, disorganized mind and aura of the reader.
#3: Don’t play games with your reader
Be sure to give your reader all the facts she needs about your situation in order to interpret the cards for you. Don’t play games, don’t “test” your reader, and don’t try to screw your reader up just to see if she can run the gauntlet of all the bs. Tarot readings work when both parties (you and your reader) meet together in cooperation to receive the answers you’re seeking.
#4: Have sufficient time to calm down before your reading
Come to the reading with sufficient time to be truly present. Don’t allow small daily “emergencies” to interfere with your ability to focus on the subject(s) of your reading. The tarot reads not only the situation; it’s influenced by your state of mind, too. If you are in total chaos at the moment — though that’s not how you usually are — the tarot may give you insights based on the resistance it feels coming from you.
#5: Focus on your intentions for a few minutes before your reading and as your reading begins
While your reader is shuffling the cards, become very still and meditative and focus on the things you want to know about in your reading. If you’re asking about a person, focus your mind on that person (in as calm a way as possible).
Do this if you’re reading for yourself, too — it’s very important to your outcome.
If you’re asking about a difficult situation, focus on it as if you’re seeing it in a movie (and as if you’re not personally wrapped up in the outcome). By energetically disconnecting from what you want to happen, you’re giving tarot permission to see into your situation and provide objective answers (which is the only way tarot can truly help you).
#6: Take notes!
Take notes during your reading. Usually only 50% of the reading will make sense at the actual time you are hearing it. Other insights will make sense later, so it’s good to refer back to your notes for the next week or so.
#7: Timing is always in flux (here’s what tarot can predict and what it can’t)
Tarot doesn’t predict with absolute accuracy things that are several months or more into the future. You can get tarot insights (from where you stand at that present moment) about things like what time period would be more advantageous to move ahead on something, or to find a relationship, or to buy a house, but accuracy will decrease the farther into the future you project.
The future is a mass of moving parts. Everyone involved in a situation plays a role in how it will eventually turn out. And by “everyone involved” I mean people who you wouldn’t imagine would have any role in the situation. Tarot cannot project how every one of these people will affect the questions you’re asking.
For example, if you’re having difficulties with your relationship, you wouldn’t think that your boss is one of the “moving parts” in how your relationship will resolve itself, but every person who adds stress to (or steps in to influence) you or your partner is a “moving part” in the situation and is contributing to the outcome.
#8: Quarterly readings give you the most benefits, and you can often get a discount if you pre-book a package of four
Because of Step 7, for best accuracy, find a reader you really connect with, and schedule a reading for each quarter of the year. A good way to do it is a new year reading in December or January, a spring-cleaning reading in March or April, a mid-summer reading in June or July, and a harvest-season reading September or October.
