Color Magic: How Color Can Make Things Happen the Way You Want

If you have a little bit of previous experience in magical practices, you might expect this post to be about burning various colors of candles in order to “light a fire” over a spell.

But that kind of information is easy to find on other sites, and I like to give you magical ideas that you’re not as likely to find everywhere else.

So, here are two magical experiments that will introduce you to direct and practical color magic. They’ll make it easy to start changing your reality and get what you want.

Color Magic Experiment #1: How Colors Make You Feel

Color is highly subjective. The colors that are most powerful for me, the ones that I most often use to shift reality, might not have any emotional resonance for you. So, in this working, I’m purposely not offering any color correspondences.

(Meaning, I’m not going to tell you that red = power, or blue = peace. That’s something that you’re going to experience for yourself and decide how various colors truly affect you (regardless of what effect the same colors might have on anyone else).

Go to this colors video and watch the various colors cycle on your screen. Pause when you see a color you like and notice how it makes you feel.

Grab your magical notebook (or get one, if you don’t have one yet), and record your emotional reactions for each color. How does visually bathing in that color change how you feel in this moment?

Whenever you need to shape shift (whether it’s to change how you’re feeling inside or whether it’s to assume the form of the person you need to be in the moment), you can come back to your notes (or to the video) to remind yourself of which color will make you feel the way you want to feel or how you want to project yourself.

Wear that color. Carry something in that color with you. Or just pause the video on that color and look at it for a minute or two. Let the power of that color fill your emotions and spirit. Let it transform you. Once it has done this you’re ready to go to your meeting, have that conversation, do that formerly scary thing . . . .

That’s the spell.

The next experiment is one way to build a color wardrobe as portals to however you’d like to be seen by others.

Color Magic Experiment #2: How the Colors You Wear Affect How Others See You

For this experiment, we’re relying on what psychologists have said about the effects of colors on the average person. We’re looking from the outside in, and hoping to glamourize others’ reactions to us through the colors we wear.

And you can take it a step farther, by enchanting specific items of clothing in your wardrobe to work for you in a particular way. By gradually building a magical wardrobe, you can:

  • protect yourself emotionally in stressful or frightening situations

  • create a protective boundary between you and people you’d like to avoid

  • attract positive attention

  • attract love

  • bring money-making opportunities to you

  • and much more

Please note: None of the above replaces common sense, consulting the authorities if you feel you are in danger, and doing the things you need to do in the real world. Magic is another layer in addition to (and not a replacement for) practical actions. Magic just gives you an emotional assist in taking the practical, mundane steps to achieve the outcomes you want. It’s not a replacement for doing the work, studying for the exam, setting boundaries with problematic people, etc.

Color Psychology Correspondences: How Experts Say Colors Generally Affect Most People

Red: Energy, life, strength, power. Red grabs attention, but can also be seen as aggressive. Stimulates emotions. Wearing red can give you confidence and energy when you’re feeling tired and depleted.

Pink: Calming, tranquil, warm, loving. Soothes emotions. Wearing pink can feel like giving yourself a hug, and can also make you seem more friendly and approachable.

Orange: Warmth, fun, energy, non-threatening. Orange attracts attention without feeling aggressive. Wearing orange can keep you going during a long day and attract others to you. It transfers its happy nature to you.

Yellow: Happiness, sunlight, optimism, inner glow. Want to be seen as sunny and optimistic? Want an assist when you’re feeling anxious or depressed? Yellow is your friend.

Green: Nature, abundance, restorative, healing. Wearing green is a great choice when you’re dealing with anxiety, but don’t want to push people away. It’s a welcoming color that has a friendly and peaceful vibe.

Blue: Calm, restful, focused, peaceful and approachable. Do you need to go into stealth mode and achieve your goals without being seen as a threat? This is the ultimate under-the-radar color.

Violet: Wealth, royalty, wisdom, spiritual (but with authority). Violet is a power color without the aggression of red. It’s the color of unquestioned power. In negotiations with a narcissist? A deep shade of purple can be a good choice, and can convey that you are standing in your power.

Black: Self-protection, authority, boundaries, coldness, sophistication, and separation. Need to be invisible? Black can be an ally in this.

Troubleshooting Wearing These Colors

What if you want to wear a certain color, but feel it doesn’t look good on you?

Let’s take an example. What if you want or need to feel powerful?

Color psychology suggests you should go for the power color, red.

But maybe you’ve never worn red before, or you don’t find it flattering. If it doesn’t “feel” good to you, it won’t have the effect you want it to have. So, the next step is to find a shade of red that feels right to you. What if you just don’t ever see yourself wearing any shade of red? What if that’s a non-negotiable for you?

Go back to your notes for Color Magic Experiment #1 and go to the emotion you wrote down that is most closely aligned with “powerful” and see which color you had that reaction to. That color will mostly be a great dupe for red, as long as that color makes you feel powerful instead of overpowered.

Want to learn more about color magic and exactly how to use it in your life?

There are so many layers of intention that can make color magic even more powerful. Bonding with a color or an article of clothing and asking it to work for you in a specific way. Developing a powerful incantation. Enchanting the color/item of clothing — working with it regularly so it works more and more reliably for you over time. And learning to combine Color Experiments #1 and 2 to exponentially increase their effectiveness.
